Easily my favorite spot outside the northern highlands. Near the Hand of the Maker is really good for single player. If you're concerned about resource spread, most of the North has high amounts of iron and coal. Directly east of the mounds of the dead has a great deal of resources and the Wights for gossamer.

However, if you have the chance it’s useful to build your base near other resources as well. Such as coal, ironstone, NCP camps, and spiders.
Obelisk Access I prefer to live near an obeli sk, though it isn't mandatory. If you live near an obelisk, you can teleport there via your map-room, which you can place anywhere. I like to have a few in spots where there aren't any obelisks. Server - Official, Private, or Single-Player When you play single-player, anything goes.
Purge gets brutal in mounds, highlands, and snow. Generally if you're not in danger of being wiped off the face of the exiled lands by an Alpha clan, anywhere with decent resources can be a big help. The area near the Summoning place is rich in recourses and thralls. Basing down near Seperemu is good as well, especially if you memorize the 14 ...H8 is pretty cool.
